The MBS Development Program is an embodied coaching experience that integrates personal training and mental coaching to support your full development—physically, mentally, and emotionally.
We provide custom fitness plans, nutritional guidance, and weekly one-on-one sessions designed for beginner to intermediate lifters. Whether you want to build muscle, lose weight, or improve in sports like running, tennis, padel, or golf, we create sustainable and enjoyable programs centered on your goals and lifestyle.

Understanding Through Information
We begin by helping you understand why each practice works. Using evidence-based protocols and insights from neuroscience, we explore how the brain functions and the science behind mental performance. You'll also receive carefully selected resources for further personal research, empowering you to expand your understanding beyond our sessions.
Conceptual Techniques
These are tools that use language and thought to provoke meaningful change. This includes practices based on cognitive behavioural therapy techniques, stoicism, and positive psychology, as well as goal setting, habit building, and mindset coaching. These techniques are designed to help you reframe challenges and cultivate resilience.
Non-Conceptual Techniques
Some of the most powerful transformations happen below the level of conscious thought. Non-conceptual practices focus on the body and nervous system, including mindfulness, yoga nidra, and breathing exercises. These techniques help regulate emotions, promote calmness, and enhance your ability to stay grounded and present.

Coach: João Freitas
I’m a neuroscience researcher, mental health advocate, and the founder of MBS Mental Coaching. My journey into mental coaching was born not only from academic study but also from deeply personal experience. After navigating the challenges of OCD, depression, and profound personal loss, I became driven to understand the mind, not just theoretically, but in a way that could lead to real, lasting change.
I hold a Master’s in Neuroscience from the Faculty of Medicine at the University of Lisbon and have worked across clinical research, mental health, and scientific communication. Here, my thesis was on the relationship between asthma and mental disorders, particularly anxiety and depression. My work has received awards and academic recognition, but my true focus lies in helping others build lives that feel meaningful and sustainable. If I can even slightly make someone feel more connected to life and able to handle it, then I can say that I am doing something worthwhile.
Personal Training
At MBS, we believe that fitness is a lifelong project, and we’re here to guide you every step of the way. Our one-on-one personal training program is designed for beginner to intermediate lifters who want to build muscle, lose weight, and most of all, enjoy their training.

Customized Workout Program: Based on your goals, we will develop different programs.
Progress Tracking: We will be with you every step of the way and adjust as needed.
Sport-Specific: If you are into Tennis, Padel, Running, or Golf, we can directly assist you with your progression in those sports.
Diet: We can help you with macronutrient calculations and recipes to build a sustainable diet program.
We create custom training plans tailored to your goals, lifestyle, and experience level. Through weekly check-ins, we track your progress, adjust your program as needed, and ensure you receive the support you need to succeed.
But we don’t stop at workouts. We also provide comprehensive nutritional guidance, including help with calorie tracking, meal suggestions, and building a sustainable approach to eating that complements your training. Our goal is to help you develop habits that support long-term health, not just quick fixes.
We also offer sport-specific coaching for running, tennis, padel, and golf, helping you improve your performance and reduce injury risk with tailored plans that align with your fitness goals.

Bernardo van Veggel is an experienced personal trainer with over a decade of hands-on experience in the gym, specializing in a diverse range of training modalities. His journey has taken him through the disciplines of bodybuilding, powerlifting, performance-based training, CrossFit, and functional fitness, giving him a well-rounded approach to physical development.
Bernardo is passionate about helping others build strength, improve movement, and achieve sustainable results by blending scientific principles with real-world application. Bernardo believes in efficiency, longevity, and personalized programming tailored to each individual’s goals and lifestyle.
